Call for Budget Participatory Initiatives in Mexico City

The PAN bench and the mayor of Miguel Hidalgo, Mauricio Tabe, urged the deputies of the Congress of Mexico City to advance the initiative presented a few months ago to allow the voting this year of the Participatory Budgets for 2025 and 2026. The objective is to carry out higher impact works in the neighborhoods and improve execution times.

In a joint press conference with PAN deputies, Mauricio Tabe emphasized the importance of extending the deadline to socialize the projects with the neighbors, which would help expedite the execution and supervision of the works. The aim is to double the resources per neighborhood by executing the participatory budgets for 2025 and 2026.

"Specifically for the year 2025, we are requesting that both exercises of the Participatory Budget be voted on in August, to have more than 15 months of socializing with the neighbors, executing the work and supervising. During 2026, we would execute double the resources of Participatory Budget per neighborhood," Tabe explained.

The mayor warned that, if this legislative measure is not approved, the main victims would be the residents of the City due to not having enough time to hold contractors accountable in case of non-compliance.

In this regard, Tabe stressed the importance of having more time to supervise the details of the works with the neighbors, avoiding advance payments, thus ensuring higher quality works for the neighborhoods.

Andrés Atayde, Coordinator of the PAN Bench in the Congress of CDMX, supported the initiative and highlighted that it would benefit all residents of the City, regardless of the borough in which they reside.

The initiative to reform the Constitution of Mexico City and the Law of Citizen Participation, presented by Mauricio Tabe in September 2024, is currently in the process of being evaluated in the Constitutional Points Commission.
